This T-level is a two-year programme and involves a blend of classroom lessons, practical instruction and significant work placements with employers to give you valuable experience in your chosen field.
T-levels are new courses that follow GCSEs and are equivalent to three A Levels. Developed in collaboration with employers, they prepare students for work and higher education by aligning content with industry needs. The T Level in Horticulture and Landscaping offers a unique chance to gain real-world experience through industry placements, providing essential skills and knowledge behaviours for careers in the garden construction and maintenance industries or for pursuing higher education.
What you'll learn
Over two years, you will undertake classroom-based learning on a broad range of issues relevant to employability, such as sustainability, ethical principles, communication, business and health and safety. You’ll also study core horticulture and landscaping topics, including plant identification, biosecurity and plant growth and development. Practical elements of the course include plant propagation and pruning as well as hard landscaping techniques such as building walls and laying paving.
You will also complete a minimum of 45 days of industry placement to further develop your practical skills and knowledge. With this blend of technical study program and industry experience, the T Level in Horticulture and Landscaping is the first step for students on a pathway to a rewarding career in the Arboriculture sector.
How you'll learn and be assessed
Core elements of the T-level are assessed via two exams. There will also be an externally set project and a separate synoptic assessment, in which you must demonstrate your practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Completing at least 45 days of work placement is also required to achieve the qualification.
