This L2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing prepares you for future employment in places such as leisure centres, fitness studios and retail sports outlets or for progression to the Level 3 Combined Diploma in Personal Training or the Sport Level 3 National Extended Diploma.
This course provides you with a high-quality, industry-recognised qualification that is also recognised on CIMSPA. It is suitable for those who wish to enter the exercise and fitness industry as a gym instructor and want to work towards becoming a Personal Trainer.
What you'll learn
You will learn a range of units that cover:
- Anatomy and physiology for exercise professionals
- Professional practice for exercise professionals
- Exercise, health, lifestyle consultation and management
- Planning and instructing gym-based exercise
On successful completion of this course, you will gain a nationally recognised Level 2 Fitness Instructors qualification. You will be able to assess clients, devise a personalised training programme and deliver a training session.
All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to work towards a grade C in GCSE English and maths, if they have not already attained this. They might mean they will retake GCSE English and maths or undertake Functional Skills each year of their course, until they complete their studies.
How you'll learn and be assessed
The course involves a mixture of theoretical and practically based work.
Assessment is through a mixture of practical assessments, portfolio evidence and one multiple choice exam.
On successful completion you’ll be awarded the VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing, recognised by CIMSPA.
Progression
On successful completion you could progress to the Level 3 Combined Diploma in Personal Training or the Sport Level 3 National Extended Diploma.
Entry requirements
You need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and Maths or achievement on a Level 1 Foundation Pathway, including Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 1
