Introduction to Dog Grooming (Intensive)

This hands-on course provides skills in practical dog grooming, focusing on handling, bathing, drying techniques, nail/ear care, and basic scissoring for tidying.

Step into the dynamic and rewarding field of professional dog grooming with our 4-week introductory course. Designed for beginners, this hands-on course provides skills in practical dog grooming, focusing on handling, bathing, drying techniques, nail/ear care, and basic scissoring to tidy the eyes, feet, and backend.

You will be taught:

  • fundamental bathing and drying techniques
  • basic scissoring around the eyes, feet, and rear
  • nail trimming and ear care
  • an introduction to health checking, canine behaviour, different breeds and coat types and the correct tools to use

Please note: This course does not cover clipping or styling but serves as the first essential step for those with no prior industry experience.

 

Tuition is largely practical and takes place in our grooming parlour on campus. 

You will learn through direct observation of practical work in the grooming parlour. 

Supporting retail, reception areas and an attractive, easily accessible campus with excellent student resources create an enjoyable learning environment.

Staff can also support a wide variety of learning difficulties and disabilities, and support may be provided if there is evidence that this is an appropriate way to help you (funding permitting).

On completing this course you might consider progressing to:

  • Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants
  • Dog Grooming and Salon Management Level 3 Diploma

Lunch is not provided so you are welcome to bring your own lunch, snacks and bottled drinks with you. Basic tea and coffee are provided. There are some catering outlets available in college during term time only.

Please park in the designated student parking area, which is free of charge. A map of the college will be supplied with your joining instructions. Please ensure you arrive early to locate your meeting place and ensure a prompt start time.

On your first day please meet your tutor in the Dog Grooming Parlour.
